CITY BOYS’ TITLE HOPE HIT A COLD WALL

Gafar’s city have remained unbeaten in twelve matches and face the toughest test yet as most of their big names are set to miss out on the last rounds due to participation in the Nigerian Universities Games(NUGA).

City started brilliantly and maintained the brilliance to earn the top spot with four points clear closest and bitter rival H-High. They have an outstanding manager in Gafar who is known for his calmness and breathtaking tactics, little wonders he emerged first to be named manager of the month.

He has built an organized, disciplined and tactical team which is yet to submit to any team in the league. The four -nill aggregate win over real eagles is an indication. They have gone on to crumble teams and held firm when faced with a more attacking opponent.

However, just when victory is at sight;when their names are about to be written in history book as pioneer winners of unilorin league;when fans and supporters have been dreaming of chanting the names of their heroes;…..it is at this glorious moment,a time at which their morale should be nearing the sky,a time to play with their strongest squad, time when they need all that could work in their favour; time when they need just everything…just then NUGA came in and hence the big question: WILL CITY OBEY THE LAW OF GRAVITY. They have gone up…are they really going to come down?

City will now play without their mid field maestro,Buhari. The man whose creativity and delivery can be paralleled to none in that sector. His wonder curl in the opener against Real Eagles still serves as a wall paper in the minds of many.

They will be without leading goal scorer,Hawwal. The number seven man has scored against all teams in the tournament operating mainly from the wings.

The man between their sticks will also be unavailable to them. In total about nine players have been selected to participate in the NUGA from city, a situation which puts both laughter and cry on the face of Gafar.

City as well have battled most of the top teams but playing a bottom team at this crucial period requires all it takes,as more intensity will be required. Coach Gafar however sited that when Ronaldinho left Barcelona,Messi stood to the occasion and when a star goes another is born-he remains optimistic that a match is played by eleven players and there are players who have been waiting for this opportunity and now will be their time.
